Pastor Martin laments over his secret, traumatic past mistakes. He’s destined to lead his father’s church, despite blatant rejection. He can’t love Rhea - he’s yet to forgive himself for his past. If Rhea knew how he used to be, she would have no interest in pursuing a relationship with him.
Rhea feels torn about her attraction to Martin – he’s a pastor, and after her husband’s death, she vowed to never get involved with another pastor. Both Martin and Rhea struggle with their faith in God. Can Martin and Rhea overcome their past so that they’re free to love again?

This book was not what I was expecting. I was prepared for a light and fluffy romance. Just some light reading to fill some free time, but this story has a depth to it that I didn’t anticipate. Issues such as manipulation, eating disorders, and financial crisis are just some of the topics in this book. The story is a bit unbelievable at times and some situations seem contrived. Rhea especially seems extreme in how she handles drama in her life or doesn’t deal with it, i.e. her landlord. I personally would have been seeking legal action. She and her sister have unresolved issues. Martin also seems extreme going from one successful over the top career to another in his short lifetime. The background information is sketchy in many parts of the story. That being said, I appreciate the author addressing these topics. Eating disorders are a big part of this story that unfortunately aren’t fully explored, from starving oneself to overeating. This is a book of extremes with a lot of elements packed in tightly but not carefully developed. I found the writing to be awkward at times and the plot seems to jerk along. I believe that too much was put into this story, cancer, interracial marriage, etc. Yet, I am glad I read this and I would read another by this author. I wasn’t put off by the topics or writing style. I liked the message of forgiving oneself and letting grief run its course. Christianity is another strong theme in this story. So, despite some flaws, I recommend this book. I believe the author has a message to share.Product details

Raspberry Kisses The Bakery Romance Series Book 1 edition by Cecelia Dowdy Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
While the plot for the story was interesting, there were quite a few grammar, punctuation, and incorrect tense problems. I found these to be rather distracting, especially when words like "torrid" were incorrectly used to mean something entirely different than its true definition. Also, all of the characters asked themselves too many questions over every thought or situation that they experienced, making it hard to follow the story. I think this author would benefit from using a professional proofreader and eliminating the overuse of words or repetition of them (such as "scent"). The idea for the plot was a cute one, but the characters were a bit unrealistic.
This story deal with several major issues financial problems, eating disorders, manipulation by both family members and others, and sibling rivalry. I loved the setting that often found Rhea in her bakery and the role played by the raspberry cupcakes throughout the story. The characters all had their own set of problems Rhea was whiny and sometimes didn't face reality well; but at the same time she was caring about others. Can't imagine why she didn't sue her landlord for several reasons. Martin was so focused on his desire for taking over this father's church and didn't seem to be pursuing God's will rather than his desires. Yet he too had a very caring side. Raven was very self-centered and vindictive, but had been set up for this behavior due to her health issues and the way her parents and sister dealt with her. Mary had a serious eating disorder but would not face her problems until 2 people made her see that she needed to face reality. Overall, an enjoyable romance read. I look forward to reading [bookShades Of Chocolate|29089908], book 2 in this series.
FAVORITE QUOTES "Maybe she's so hard edged because she's protecting herself from possible pain."
"If things are right with God, then everything will fall into place."
"Have faith that the Lord will lead you to wherever He wants you to be."
There were several times I almost stopped reading this book. I finally did stop at 25%. Rhea was depressing always focusing on her troubles, and when Martin made suggestions for her bakery, she thought it sounded like a lot of work. Martin was so determined that he had to take over for his father at the church. It is a pet peeve of mine when the pastor calls it his church. The church belongs to God. Martin seemed determined to get his own way, he didn't listen to his sister about attending the meeting. We should not have to defend ourselves, our character should do it for us. Maybe it gets better, but I decided to stop reading.
I can't believe I was reading the same book as all the other reviewers. I could barely finish this book. There were many phrases that were highly repetitive. There were a few typos. But mostly I couldn't stand Rhea's whining. There wasn't a single character in this book that I did like. I really didn't get the chapter about the food convention, until I figured out the author threw that in to introduce her next book. Regardless I won't be reading it.
I did not enjoy this one at all. I came really close to quitting several times. Rhea is very whiny and quick to temper, but is always made to look like it's warranted, even when it's not. All of the women around her are made to look temperamental and ill, when she herself is too. The women in the book are either overweight or starve themselves. Pretty sure there wasn't an in-between.
The writing style is very formal and choppy, over explanatory in parts, and trying way too hard in others. The writing got in the way of the story a lot. I felt that it was hard to see the story for the words. They were just clunky and too much for what could have been a decent story.
I wanted to dump Rhea. She was so indecisive and rude in so much of the story. I would have quit her if I were Martin. We never really saw how their relationship developed, they were barely friends and then madly in love. It was so confusing.
The plot was good, but I think the overall execution was sorely lacking. I was disappointed.
